picsqatar1 Qatar is strategically located in the Middle East. It is a Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) member having its capital in Doha. Today Qatar has developed into a modern oasis and has highly developed communications, education, health and transportation systems, and a diversifying economy.

Qatar is one of the fastest growing economies and boasts of highest per capita incomes in the world. It has proven gas reserves of over 900 trillion standard cubic feet in its North Field and oil reserves of over 15.2 billion barrels. Over the years, the country has developed into a major global supplier of energy and is set to become the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the world and a world leader in gas-to-liquids (GTL) production.

As per Investment Laws, up to 100% foreign investment is allowed in projects related to agriculture, industry, leisure, tourism, health, education and the exploitation of natural resources, energy or mining – subject to dispensation from the Ministry of Economy & Commerce. Further, foreigners can invest in all sectors except banking, insurance, commercial agencies and real estate together with Qatari partners, who hold 51% interest.

The country boasts of world-class hotels and recreation clubs, sophisticated shopping malls, large entertainment complexes, and restaurants serving food from around the world. It has extensive sporting facilities and the country's national teams compete in international events worldwide. It is also rapidly developing as a tourist destination as well as a conference center and incentives destination for international corporations.


Qatar is a peninsula situated halfway along the West Coast of the Arabian Gulf. It has a number of islands, the most important of which are Halool, Shira'aw, Al-Ashat and others. Its topography consists of a rocky flat surface with some limestone outcrops in Dukhan area in the west and Fuwairit area in the north. The surface is full with characteristic depressions called Rawdat, particularly in the north and central plants.

The total land area of Qatar is approximately 11,521 square kilometers.


Arabic is the official language in Qatar, but English is widely spoken.

Islam is the official religion of the country, and the Shariah (Islamic Law) is the principal source of legislation in the country.

Qatar has a moderate desert climate with long hot summers and short mild winters and little rain in winter.Summer time in Qatar, from June to September, is characterized by intense heat with alternating dryness and humidity with everyday temperatures usually exceeding 40°C. From October to May temperatures are moderate. Mid-winter temperatures may fall to around 15°C, which is relatively cool for the latitude. Rainfall is negligible, averaging 100 millimeters per year and is confined to the winter months, falling in brief, sometimes heavy storms that often flood the small ravines and the usually dry wadis.

The official currency is the Qatari Riyal (QR), which is divided into 100 dirham. The Exchange parity has been set at the fixed rate of US $ = 3.65QR's.
